Rabat – After multiple delays due to health restrictions in both Morocco and Israel, the first flight between the two countries took off this Sunday, July 25.

The launch of flights was met with praise from both the US and Israeli officials, who expressed satisfaction with this achievement, stressing that it will have positive effects on Israel and Morocco in various fields.

Alon Oshbiz, Director-General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that “these fruits of peace directly benefit both Morocco and Israel, as well as the economies of both countries and peoples.”

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”><p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”>The fruits of peace, directly benefiting Israel and Morocco, our economies and our citizens <a href=”https://t.co/OlDaWbK2s2″>https://t.co/OlDaWbK2s2</a></p>&mdash; Alon Ushpiz (@AlonUshpiz) <a href=”https://twitter.com/AlonUshpiz/status/1419332188135383042?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>July 25, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″></script>

David Govrin, the Charge d’Affaires of the Israeli mission in Morocco tweeted: “Marrakech Airport is witnessing a historic event, and I am very proud to add to my diplomatic record, my participation in the erection of the first direct flight that landed in Marrakesh from Israel. Congratulations to both peoples on this success.”

<a href=”https://t.co/AQOhuabRPc”>pic.twitter.com/AQOhuabRPc</a></p>&mdash; Dr. David Govrin (@DavidGovrin) <a href=”https://twitter.com/DavidGovrin/status/1419582552319438850?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”>July 26, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src=”https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″></script>

The flights will be operated by the largest israeli airway company El Al, and Israeli company Israir, the latter is the carrier of the aircrafts that landed in Marrakesh on Sunday.

A third company, Arkia, is expected to depart from Israel on August 4, in addition to upcoming Royal Air Maroc flights.

Marrakech-Menara Airport received 211 passengers from Tel Aviv on Sunday, directly from Ocher city.

The direct flights connecting both Morocco and Israel come after the normalization accords signed in December 2020.

The agreement will allow both countries to boost ties in many fields and advance bilateral cooperation. Among the many topics covered in the agreements are trade, technology, tourism, financial investments, and counterterrorism.

Morocco is expecting a mass of tourists and diaspora members to visit the country following the opening of direct flights.

Considering the complication of the pandemic on the Moroccan tourism industry, Israeli tourists are expected to contribute to the gradual improvement of the industry.
