Rabat – The US’ Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Joey Hood, will spend five days traveling from Algeria to Morocco, before completing his MENA tour in Kuwait.
Hood began his diplomatic trip to the region on July 24 in Algeria to discuss bilateral and regional issues.
According to a press release from the US Department of State, Hood will then visit Morocco to “meet with Moroccan government officials, local business leaders, and with civil society leaders.”
The same source added that the US diplomat will visit the American Legation Exhibit at the National Library of Rabat. The exhibit celebrates the 200 years of diplomatic ties between the US and Morocco and showcases different cultural artifacts with shared importance to both countries.
Hood will join the growing list of American diplomats who have visited the new exhibit. In May 2021, US Charge d’Affaires David Greene hosted the ribbon cutting event of the exhibit.

According to Greene, the exhibit will move to Casablanca before ultimately arriving in the Department of State in Washington D.C.
Following his visit to Morocco, Hood will travel to Kuwait for a diplomatic visit alongside the US’ Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
It is expected that the diplomat will discuss the current situation between Israel and Palestine as Morocco signed former US President Donald Trump’s Abraham Accords. The multilateral agreement sought to bolster relations between Muslim-majority countries in the MENA region and Israel.
Morocco has continued to support the US-brokered agreement while still maintaining its support for the Palestinian cause.
