Rabat – Morocco will participate in the 2021 Junior Track Cycling World Championships to be held in Cairo from September 1-5.
There will be five Moroccan athletes competing in the competition: Hagchi Mohamed, Laktabni Zakaria, Dhimane Hassane, Aziki Alae, and Mohamed Najib Sanbouli, under the coaching of Saadoun Abdelati and Mustapha Ermal.
Moroccan cyclists will participate in 10 competitions: sprint, team sprint, time trial (1 km), Keirin, individual pursuit, team pursuit, scratch race, elimination, Omnium, and point race.
The Moroccan national team began its preparatory training for the event in Cairo nearly a week ago.
In a statement on the official website of the competition, Morocco’s coach Mustapha Ermal stated that: ”The Moroccan team arrived early in Cairo to prepare well for the Junior Track World Championships”. He added: “This is our first participation since the start of the pandemic. We are very optimistic about doing something big here”.
“The atmosphere is great as Cairo is welcoming different nations on its land,” he noted.
The cyclists, who will participate in the competition, have been chosen according to their physical preparation and their average technical performance in the weekly races organized by the regional leagues.
This qualification to the World Championships follows the excellent performances of the Moroccan cyclists, especially the last performance at the African Championship in Egypt that allowed the Moroccan national squad to win 18 medals.
The event, which will see the participation of 43 countries, will be held on the cycling track of the Cairo International Stadium, the largest track in Africa and the Middle East.
