Rabat – In response to growing rumors on social media, Morocco’s Ministry of National Education has denied any change to the dates for the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.
“Following the unfounded information conveyed by certain individuals about changes in the dates of the start of the 2021-2022 school year, the Ministry of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research wishes to inform the public opinion that this is false and unfounded information,” reads an update from the ministry.
The 2021-2022 school year will begin on September 3, both at the regional and national levels, according to a ministerial decree released on June 22, 2021. The decree instructed the academies and educational departments to begin preparations for the forthcoming school year.
Consequently, Morocco’s various regional administrations, school councils, supervisory bodies, and educational institutions have commenced working towards a September 3 start date.
The statement implored all actors in the sector to take the necessary measures to get ready for the upcoming school year, which will run under the slogan “For a pioneering educational renaissance to improve the quality of education.”
In early August, the ministry began urging all students to get vaccinated as soon as possible to help accelerate the progress of the national vaccination campaign. According to the statement, “all students, as well as the concerned vocational training trainees,” should visit a nearby vaccination center, no matter the individual’s actual registered address.
Morocco also just celebrated Youth Day on August 21 – an annual celebration of its younger generations coinciding with the King’s birthday. While it was effectively cancelled in 2019, it used to be celebrated with public speeches, youth forums, and other events aimed at engaging the youth.
Felipe VI of Spain and Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown-Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent congratulatory messages to the Moroccan King on the occasion of the celebration.
