Morocco Participates in Sino-Arab Forum for Technology Transfer

Rabat – In conjunction with the currently ongoing fifth China-Arab States Expo, Morocco also participated in the Sino-Arab Forum for Technology Transfer and Innovation held on Thursday, August 19.

Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research Said Amzazi represented Morocco during a videoconference of the fourth annual Sino-Arab Forum. The event was held as part of the fifth China-Arab States Expo held under the theme of “Deepening economic and trade cooperation and joint construction of the Belt and the Road.”

As reported by various news sources, the ministry praised the forum for its importance, citing its opportunities for China and Arab states to enhance their scientific and technological cooperation.

The conference saw the participation of a variety of Chinese and Arab ambassadors, ministries and ministers, including representatives of various scientific and technological research institutes. The forum acts as a foundation to facilitate the exchange of data, methods, and achievements in a number of scientific fields.

In efforts to promote domestic innovation, Morocco also launched its pavilion at the China-Arab States Expo. Morocco’s pavilion covers a 200 meter squared area and presents a fully digitized experience highlighting Morocco’s various sectors. The pavilion is a result of the joint efforts of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), Tangier Med Special Agency (TMSA), and the Maison de l’Artisan.

For Morocco and China, the key sectors of trade are manufacturing, information and technology, the automotive and aeronautics industries, and minerals and metals. The chemical industry, specifically renewable energies, and healthcare innovation are among the up-and-coming sectors that offer significant potential.

Chinese exports to Morocco reached a total value of $4.47 billion (MAD 39.51 billion) in 2019, while Moroccan exports to China reached a total of $485 million (MAD 4.3 billion) the same year, according to the OEC.
