Rabat – Aya Gold & Silver, a Canada-based silver producer with operations in Morocco, has identified a new four-kilometer long mineralized zone located on Imiter bis, approximately 120 kilometers from Ouarzazate.
The company found a “north-south mineralized structure extending over four kilometers long,” with identified high-grade values attesting to the profitability of the Imiter bis property, according to a company press release.
The discovery also represents “a parallel growth opportunity to Zgounder [mine], which continues to expand. We are mobilizing to realize this value for all stakeholders,” said the company’s president and CEO Benoit La Salle.
The company carried out a comprehensive study of the area between June and July of this year. The fieldwork program included mapping, grab sampling, and channel sampling.
The results indicated the possibility of a high-grade epithermal gold and silver occurrence in the area. The same results also suggested a possibility of either porphyry deposits or copper-rich deposits.
According to the latest studies, the company could identify its five priority target areas, with magnetic ground surveys still ongoing. Aya Gold & Silver will begin test drilling in October 2021 across the “4,000-meter diamond drilling program.”
The same data suggests, historically speaking, a very active volcanic system as well as big hydrothermal activity in the area.
All of the company’s projects are based out of Morocco. It currently holds one flagship silver mine in Zgounder in the Taroudant province, and six other projects across the country. The company’s flagship mine is considered to be the second biggest silver mine in Morocco, following the Imiter Mine owned by Managem.
Aya Gold & Silver picked Morocco for its operation primarily due to three key reasons: stability, infrastructure, and potential.
The company cites Morocco’s “excellent network of roads,” including the country’s thermal coal, hydroelectric energy, and solar energy capacity, and its strategic location which helps facilitate access to global markets.
