Meknes – The judicial police of the Bernoussi neighborhood in Casablanca on August 3 arrested two individuals, including a police officer, on kidnapping suspicions.
The arrest was made on the basis of information provided by the services of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The suspects are believed to have been involved in kidnapping and sequestration associated with ransom demands.
A wholesale trader whose brother had been kidnapped filed a complaint on Friday morning. The man said the alleged kidnappers called him asking for a sum of 300,000 MAD ($33,667) as ransom in exchange for the release of his brother, the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) indicated in a statement.
The victim’s location was identified by intensive investigations in the Lahraouyine neighborhood.
The police arrested the two suspects on site and seized a vehicle as well as wireless communication devices similar to those used by the security services, says the same source.
Preliminary investigation revealed the kidnapping was due to a financial dispute between the suspects and the alleged victim. DGSN’s communique stated the latter is subject to a national search operation in several cases of fraud and emission of rubber checks.
The two suspects and the alleged victim have been placed in police custody, pending further investigations to shed further light on the case and investigate the victim’s acts of fraud and emission of rubber checks.
