Rabat – Aziz Akhannouch, Morocco’s Head of Government inaugurated consultations on the formation of a new government on Monday morning, September 13, in Rabat.
The first meeting during the consultations was with Abdellatif Ouahbi, the secretary-general of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM).
Ouahbi said the meeting focused on discussing ideas about the prospect of forming a government coalition. The PM secretary-general said that he received “very positive signals,” from Akhannouch, the head of the National Rally of Independents (RNI).
Ouahbi expressed commitment to engage in dialogue with RNI.
“We will try to build a common vision for the future … things will go better,” he said.
The PAM secretary-general also congratulated Akhannouch for the royal trust he had received, thanking him for the positive “signs and sentiments.”
Nizar Baraka, the secretary-general of Al Istiqlal also met with Akhannouch today as part of the consultations.
Baraka echoed similar remarks, expressing satisfaction with the election turnout and his party’s determination to work to serve the country and its population.
On Friday, last week, King Mohammed VI received Akhannouch and requested that he form a government.
The King also announced that Akhannouch would assume the role of Head of Government in Morocco.
RNI is the winning political party, with 102 seats. PAM is second with 86 seats and Al Istiqlal is third with 81 seats.
PAM served as an opposition party during the expired legislative term.
PAM confirmed in a press release that it is ready to serve the public interest from all positions without any red lines.
