Meknes – Morocco and China signed a cooperation agreement between the House of Representatives and China’s National People’s Congress on Thursday, September 16.
Habib El Malki, Chairman of the House of Representatives, and Li Zhanshu, president of the National People’s Congress of China, signed the agreement under the commitment of strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing consultation between the two nations.
The two signatory parties agreed on the basis that respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is crucial for maintaining “international peace and security,” the House of Representatives said in a statement.
By signing the agreement, the leaders of the two countries have taken a step towards implementing the understanding between the two countries.
According to the statement, the agreement provided a foundation for enhanced cooperation as well as continuous support for fundamental interests of both countries.
Morocco and China are keen to improve communication and strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation.
The agreement aims to boost cooperation between the two chambers’ presidencies, as well as between parliamentary committees, friendship groups, and administrative services.

The two countries aim to enhance their collaboration in public health, security, poverty reduction, and sustainable development. The agreement further seeks for both nations to exchange expertise, most notably in the areas of governance, administration, democracy, and the rule of law.
The agreement further encourages both countries to strengthen communication and cooperation in international and regional institutions and multilateral forums, in order to ensure the advancement of their common interests.
Last April, El Malki and Zhanshu agreed to institutionalize cooperation between the two parliaments, to intensify visits and exchanges of expertise, to revitalize the work of the parliamentary friendship groups, and to maintain permanent contact in all international parliamentary forums.
Zhanshu highlighted the telephone call between King Mohammed VI and president Xi Jinping, further strengthening cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fight against Covid-19.
