Denver – Hassan I University is embroiled in a major scandal after allegations of sexual abuse emerged from the school’s law program.

Leaked WhatsApp messages allegedly indicate evidence of “sexual discussions” between a professor and university students in the program. In addition to erotic texts, the messages were also said to contain inappropriate sexual videos.

Local authorities interviewed two students involved in the WhatsApp texts. Both students confirmed contact with the professor, as well as an agreement of better grades in exchange for sexual favors. Morocco’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education launched an investigation Tuesday to clarify the full nature of the offense.

Officials formed an investigative committee to interrogate the accused professor, as well as two additional faculty members and students that were involved in the WhatsApp text leak.

However, the school is the latest Moroccan institution to be embroiled in sexual allegations. Moroccan universities have been accused of failing to adequately respond to accusations of sexual assault on their campuses.

In 2017, an algebra professor at Abdel Malek Saadi University was exposed after operating a similar “sex for grades” exchange with students. Texts leaked from a former student detailed at least four years of the professor offering his students improved grades in exchange for sex.

Al-Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) also faced accusations of mismanagement of sexual harassment cases earlier this year. AUI’s administration fired a homosexual teacher for allegedly inappropriate behavior after intimate pictures of the professor were leaked to both students and staff. Students began to accuse the school of providing insufficient resources to support students and faculty members that have been victims of sexual assault while on campus.

While AUI vehemently maintained it was dedicated to ensuring student and faculty safety, the allegations resulted in a temporary suspension of funding to the school from the United States’ Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).

Both AUI and Hassan I University are ranked among the top schools in Morocco, being featured in global university rankings by international outlets such as Time magazine.
