Denver- Morocco’s national futsal team has managed to secure a position in the final round of the group stage after a competitive match with Thailand.
The fate of the team hung in the balance after its 1-1 draw with Thailand. However, it was revealed today that the team would indeed qualify for the knockout stage of the competition, after placing among the top four teams to rank third in their respective groups, out of the six groups in the competition.
Morocco’s national futsal squad has been in Lithuania since last Sunday in a bid to take home the futsal World Cup. With head coach Hicham Dguig at the helm, this year’s competition marks the third appearance for Morocco on the Futsal World Cup stage.
Now, Morocco’s futsal team can also add this year’s competition as a historical first for the longest the team has lasted in the international competition.
After a stunning victory over the Solomon Islands and a close tie against Thailand, Morocco’s next challenge will be to face off against the Portuguese national team. Both squads will now face each other in a final game in the Group C contest, although Morocco now already qualifies for the next round of competition regardless of the upcoming game’s result.
Morocco’s match against Portugal is set for Sunday, September 19th, and will take place at Svyturys Arena in the city of Klaipeda.
