Rabat – The total numbers of people vaccinated in Morocco against COVID-19 reached today 18,590,596, according to the latest figures computed by the country’s ministry of health.
Per the new data, 22,136,862 people have received the first dose of vaccines, bringing Morocco closer to its initial goal of vaccinating 80% of the population by December.
The North African country, which seeks to boost its vaccination campaign, is also preparing to produce COVID-19 vaccines by the end of this year.
The project is part of Morocco’s ambition to both make its COVID vaccination self-sufficient and position itself a continental leader in the manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccine.
The new data from Morocco’s health ministry recorded 394 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total of infections to 929,699.
Morocco’s fatality rate stands at 1.5%, and the country’s death toll reached 14,199 after 32 people died of COVID-19 in the 24 hours.
Meanwhile, recoveries reached 901,220 after 2,548 people were declared free of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours,with the recovery rate now standing at 97%.
The number of active cases stands at 14,280, including 1,081 in critical cases.
The Rabat-Sale Kenitra region recorded most of the cases in the past 24 hours (201 cases, 16 deaths), followed by Casablanca-Settat (80 cases, eight deaths), the Oriental (31 cases, one death), and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (20 cases).
Tangier-Tetouan Al Hoceima recorded 19 cases and two deaths, and was followed by Beni Mellal Khenifra (11 cases), and Marrakech-Safi (nine cases and three deaths).
The Souss Massa region reported eight cases, followed by Fez-Meknes (seven cases, and two deaths), Draa-Tafilaltet (six cases), and Laayoune Sakia El Hamra.
