Rabat – The Moroccan Health Ministry recorded 35 COVID-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours,while the country’s total death toll due to the pandemic reached 14,167.
Morocco also reported 734 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 929,305 as of September 26.
In terms of recoveries, the ministry recorded 1,420 recoveries in the past 24 hours, while the total number of recovered people since the start of the pandemic has reached 898,672.
With the addition of today’s cases, the number of active COVID-19 infections in Morocco reached 16,466, and the number of people in critical condition reached 1,148.
The Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region reported the majority of cases today, with 255 infections and 10 deaths.
Grand Casablanca-Settat region came in second with 235 cases and five deaths followed by Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, recording 93 cases and three deaths.
Morocco has fully vaccinated 18,375,508 of the population as of today.
The number of people who received the first dose of vaccines amounted to 21,931,087.
Morocco is aiming to fully vaccinate up to 80% of the population, with a newfound focus on teenagers between the ages of 12-17 ahead of the 2021-2022 school year.
A third “booster” vaccine shot is being considered, with authorities saying that such a decision would primarily be aimed at people with chronic diseases and COVID frontline workers, such as doctors, civil services, security services and educators.
Health professionals have been calling on citizens to engage in the vaccination campaign to avoid spread of the pandemic, particularly the delta variant.
