Rabat – Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (BCIJ) has arrested four people who are suspected of being involved in the dismantled ISIS cell in Errachidia on September 14.
The BCIJ released a statement today announcing its arrest operations took place between September 16-22.
The arrests were carried out in collaboration with Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
A preliminary investigation said that all of the suspects pledged allegiance to the “emir” or leader of ISIS, with the aim of recruiting more people and mobilizing them to undermine Morocco’s security.
The members of the cell were also plotting terror attacks against security and military institutions.
The dismantled cell was also targeting public institutions.
BCIJ placed the suspects in custody for further investigation to determine the circumstances of the case.
On September 14, BCIJ arrested three people aged between 21 and 37 for their involvement in the dismantled cell.
The list of suspects included the leader of the cell, who was attempting to recruit more members.
The suspect was using his shop to recruit new members. He also used the place for prayers, prohibiting the two cell members from going to mosques.
During the operation, the BCIJ seized handwritten and printed manuscripts “glorifying” terror operations.”
The material seized also included “military-like” uniforms.
Since 2002, Morocco has dismantled over 2,009 terror cells.
The North African country also arrested over 3,353 people for their alleged involvement in terror activities and aborted over 500 violent terror plots.
