Road Accident in Khenifra Leaves Six Dead, 20 Injured

A tragic road traffic accident on Monday, September 20, resulted in the death of six people and the injury of 20, five of which suffered severe injuries, in Kerrouchen, near the town of El Heri in Morocco.

Road Accident in Khenifra Leaves Six Dead, 20 Injured

Rabat – A tragic road traffic accident on Monday, September 20, resulted in the death of six people and the injury of 20, five of which suffered severe injuries, in Kerrouchen, near the town of El Heri in Morocco.

The victims were in a pick-up truck, reportedly on their way to the headquarters of their rural commune when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn, according to local reports.

The injured were transported the same day to the Khenifra Provincial Hospital for medical care, and the remains of the deceased victims were taken to the morgue of the same hospital.

The Royal Gendarmerie services arrived at the scene shortly after the incident, and opened an investigation to shed further light on the accident.

Road fatality in Morocco is reported to have increased by 36.7%in the first half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, with 1200 deaths recorded from January to May 2021.

During the week from August 23 to August 29, sixteen people were killed and 1920 injured in traffic accidents in major urban centers across the country.

According to a press release from Morocco’s Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), most of these accidents are primarily caused by driver inattention, pedestrian inattention, excessive speed, failure to respect traffic laws, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol and other stimulants.
