Rabat – How would life be without the presence of social media platforms? The answer may be less anxiety and better mental health for individuals. The Child and Mind Institute, an NGO dedicated to helping children with mental health and learning disorders, previously reported that prolonged exposure to social media is associated with depression.
Overall, the collective studies concluded that guidelines and limits could help to mitigate the harm caused by excessive use of social media.
In Morocco, the negative effects of social media are particularly evident among Generation Z. Moroccan health researchers conducted a recent survey about social media addiction among Moroccan university students, and found that 73.5% of the students (104 students) used the internet for social networking on average for over four hours daily.
Different Moroccan social media users explained on Facebook that they had time to rethink and reshape their thoughts following the global social media outage, as opposed to being “forced” to spend hours staring at rectangular screens.
“An electronic diet that detoxed our brains, and brought us back to normal life … away from Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp. We got rid of the virtual world illusions, in half a day, and went back to thinking, talking and listening,” reads one of the posts on Facebook.
There has been no official reason given for the global outage. But online network experts claimed that the issue may be caused by a DNS (Domain Name System),, for Facebook sites.
Social media services Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram are back online after a six-hour outage, said Facebook in a statement on Twitter. This outage was described as “the second biggest one in Facebook’s history” after 2019. At that time, Facebook and its other social media apps were unavailable worldwide for more than 14 hours.
