Nabila Rmili is one of the female officials that made it to the new cabinet headed by Aziz Akhannouch.

Born in Casablanca in 1974, Rmili holds a degree in general medicine from the faculty of medicine and pharmacy.

She served in several positions as a doctor, including at the emergency department of the Ouazzane Provincial Hospital center from 2002 to 2005.

She additionally worked  as head doctor of the youth health area at the Casa-Anfa district prefecture between 2006 and 2010.

Rmili holds a career full of positions in her field. She also held the position of the delegate of the Ministry of Health at the Ben M’sik arrondissement prefecture, between 2010 and 2014.

She continued her foray into public health-related  politics as regional health director of Casablanca-Settat in 2017.

Rmili  has also been engaged in political life with the RNI.

Rmili is a member of the RNI Political Office, Party Perfectural coordinator, and also Vice-Chair of the City Council in Casablanca.

The public health official also served as the president of the RNI Health Professions Association.

In addition to her position as the new Minister of Health, Rmili was recently elected as the new mayor of Casablanca as part of Morocco’s general elections that took place on September 8.

Rmili will replace Khalid Ait Taleb in the Health Ministry, one of the key departments in Morocco.

The government has acknowledged that the health ministry is facing deficiencies, including staff shortages.

In May, former health minister Ait Taleb announced that Morocco is in dire need of 32,000 doctors and 65,000 nurses to boost the health sector.

Morocco’s deficit in personnel stands at 97,161, spread over 32,387 medical doctors and 64,774 nurses as well as other medical practitioners.

The former health minister suggested that recruiting 62,000 medical personnel could solve many of the challenges facing the sector.

It remains to be seen whether Rmili, along with the other ministers appointed to the new government, will succeed to address some of the challenges existing.
