Rabat – Aawatif Hayar is among the seven female Moroccan ministers to have secured a position in Morocco’s newly formed government.

Hayar, the new Minister of Family and Solidarity, succeeded Jamila Moussali.

A member of the Al Istiqlal Party, Hayar is the President of the University Hassan II in Casablanca.

The official holds a degree in electrical engineering from the Paris-Saclay Normal School, formerly ENS Cachan.

She also holds a PhD in Signal Processing and Telecommunications from the National Polytechnic Institute of Toulouse in 2001.

Hayar held several positions, including a research and teaching associate position at EURECOM in Sophia Antipolis-France from 2001 to 2010.

The official continues to lead several projects, including the IEEE Core Smart City Project in Casablanca.

In 2015, Hayar was named one of the 10 most innovative African women by the African Innovation Foundation.

The new solidarity minister remains heavily involved in projects on research and development funded by local senior establishments, including the Institute Research Energy Solar and New Energies (IRSEN).

The appointment of women to several government positions is part of the country’s policy of increasing the participation of Moroccan females in politics and policymaking.

Female officials secured several key departments, including in the health and tourism departments.
