Rabat – The European Parliament unveiled three finalists for the 2021 Sakharov Prize, which excludes the candidacy of Polisario’s self-proclaimed human rights activist Sultana Khaya.

The Sakharov Prize is an honorary award presented to individuals or groups who have dedicated their lives to the defense of human rights and freedom of thought.

The list of finalists includes 11 Afghan women, Bolivian politician Jeanine Anez, and Russian activist Alexei Navalny.

The President of the European Parliament and the leaders of each of its political groups will announce the winner of the award on October 21.

The European Left and the Algerian regime have supported Khaya’s candidacy for the prestigious award.

The Algerian government finances, arms, supports, and shelters the Polisario Front.

The Algerian regime also supports the Polisario’s Western Sahara independence claims in an attempt to undermine Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its southern provinces.

Khaya, a controversial member of the separatist group, and other separatist women have been associated with hostility toward Morocco.

Khaya, who promotes herself as a “peaceful human rights activist,” participated in the Polisario Front’s military training and exercises from January 1-12 in 2019.

Earlier this year, Morocco sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the Security Council in an attempt to disprove Khaya and the Polisario’s accusations towards Morocco.

The North African country also sent several photo and video attachments pertaining to  Khaya’s allegations towards Morocco in an effort to debunk her claims.

One of the pieces of proof Morocco provided to the UN was a photo of Khaya wearing a military uniform and carrying a Kalashnikov rifle.

Morocco’s Permanent Ambassador to the UN, Omar Hilale, has also exposed Khaya’s self-professed claims of being a peaceful human rights activist.

“She is a supporter of violence […] She participated in military courses and exercises of the separatists from January 1-12, 2019, and she called for armed violence against civilians in the Moroccan Sahara,” Hilale warned the UN earlier this year.
