Rabat – Tests on eight Tunisian players came back positive for the banned substance clenbuterol, a drug that is commonly used to promote fat loss and muscle growth, according to the British newspaper Daily Mail.
The investigation concluded that the positive tests stemmed from the players’ consumption of contaminated meat in Mexico rather than from intentional use of the drug.
The newspaper added that no severe disciplinary action would be taken against the Tunisian players, since the examination showed that the results were caused by the meat the squad ate at their Mexico base rather than by performance-enhancing substances.
Tunisia exited the tournament after losing all three Group F games at the 2026 World Cup to Sweden 5-1, Japan 4-0, and the Netherlands 3-1, finishing last with 0 points and 12 goals conceded.
