Rabat – South Korea’s International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Association for the Promotion of Moroccan-Korean Cooperation (AMACO) have donated various supplies to Dar-Taliba Islamic Association in the Khemisset province, near Rabat.
The institutions donated approximately 300 items including, among others, blankets, sheets, pillows, books, and a refrigerator to improve the school conditions of rural students.
The donation will contribute to the education of 70 female students from the Ahmed Taib Benhima High School.
KOICA’s representative in Morocco, Yongwoo Jeong, told Morocco’s state media that similar donations would be made in other parts of the country.
The easing of health measures post-COVID-19 has allowed the reopening of student dorms for the benefit of girls from vulnerable rural communities.
“We hope that this donation, granted at the beginning of the school year, would meet the students’ necessities in their daily life,” said Mohamed Moussa, President of AMACO.
Meanwhile, Yassine Benabderrahmane, President of Dar-Taliba Islamic Association, said that the project hopes to lend a helping hand to the association, expressing his gratitude to AMACO and KOICA for the efforts made to help rural students.
The partnership between KOICA and AMACO has provided Morocco with several charitable and volunteer activities in recent years.
AMACO seeks to promote bilateral cooperation between Morocco and South Korea through the KOICA training program.
In 2020, the aforementioned institutions have donated a $13,000 (MAD 117,000) medical package of equipment and supplies to Rabat’s Ibn Sina University Hospital Center and to the Association of Health Professionals of the Provincial Hospital Center in Sale.
KOICA also donated five “walk-through” testing booths for COVID-19 in the same year. The booths, developed by Korean experts, offer quick and accurate screening, enabling mass testing for COVID-19.
KOICA’s donations are part of South Korea’s cooperative commitment with Morocco to help the North African country curb the spread of COVID-19.
