Agadir – Morocco’s House of Councillors and Parliamentary Unions from Latin America and the Caribbean signed, on Saturday in Marrakech, a memorandum of understanding establishing a permanent parliamentary forum to reinforce cooperation between Morocco and countries of the region.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the 4th Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region, held on 19-20 June in Marrakech.
The event brought together senior parliamentary and economic stakeholders from across the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf areas to address pressing global and regional challenges.
It was organized jointly by the House of Councillors of Morocco in partnership with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
PAM describes the forum as a leading regional platform for parliamentary dialogue on economic growth and integration, designed to translate parliamentary engagement into concrete outcomes for a more stable and resilient regional future.
The agreement establishing the new Morocco–Latin America and Caribbean parliamentary forum brings together key regional legislative organizations, including the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino), the Parliament of Mercosur (Parlasur), the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), and the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Powers of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL).
The agreement aims to establish parliamentary dialogue and expand cooperation across economic, social, and development-related areas, while also addressing shared challenges such as migration, climate change, and terrorism.
It also seeks to promote coordination on regional and international issues, enhance investment and trade flows between the regions, and facilitate the exchange of legislative and parliamentary expertise.
Its key objectives include fostering cooperation in development policies, promoting shared responses to global challenges, and encouraging economic integration between Morocco and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
