Rabat – Eleven people suspected of being involved in an organized crime network in Morocco appeared before the public prosecutor office on October 24 in Fez, charged with theft, drug trafficking, and extortion.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that local police in Fez arrested the suspects with the collaboration of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
In addition to drug trafficking, the suspects have also been accused of extortion and illegal exploitation of public and private property.
The police search operations led to the seizure of significant amounts of cannabis, cocaine, and psychotropic drugs. Several weapons such as knives, a stick, and a vehicle were confiscated as well.
Police also seized money, both in national and foreign currencies, which is believed to have originated from “criminal activities,” according to DGSN.
Security services have placed the suspects in custody, pending a judicial investigation which will determine the circumstances of the case, and lead to the arrest of additional accomplices.
The dismantling of the network is part of Morocco’s efforts to fight against organized crimes in Morocco, including in Fez.
DGSN said the operations against the organized crime network in Fez had resulted in the arrest of 152 individuals that were involved in crimes such as drug trafficking, kidnapping, extortion, and aggravated robbery.
