Expo 2020 Dubai: Morocco Introduces Agriculture Investment Opportunities

Rabat – The Ministry of Agriculture and the Agricultural Development Agency (ADA) organized a conference on October 12 as part of “Morocco Week” in Expo 2020 Dubai to promote the promising investment opportunities in the country’s agricultural sector.

The organizers shifted the focus on two main strategies launched by Morocco to develop its agricultural sector, namely, the “Green Morocco” Plan (PMV) and “Generation Green 2020-2030.”

The PMV is an infrastructure program within Morocco’s primary sector with a purpose of transforming agriculture into a modern, value-added, high-productivity agriculture that meets the demands of the market.

Meanwhile, the implementation of the new agricultural strategy “Green Generation 2020-2030” aims to support young people to invest in 1 million hectares of arable lands, create around 350,000 job opportunities, and increase agricultural exports to MAD 60 billion ($6.6 billion) by 2030.

During the conference, Redouane Arrach, Director of Strategy and Statistics at the Ministry of Agriculture, spoke about the PMV’s current achievements and the investment potential in the agricultural sector within the framework of the “Generation Green” action plan.

The Moroccan delegation discussed the immense opportunities Moroccan agriculture offers as a result of its privileged geostrategic position, favorable climate conditions, and competitiveness.

“Morocco has many assets, allowing it to position itself as a major African hub,” said Ghita El Ghorfi, General Manager of Morocco Foodex.

Morocco Foodex is a public institution placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fishing, Rural Development and Water and Forests.

The delegation further emphasized the country’s ambitions to achieve a sustainable food system, which is one of the most crucial topics at the moment given the global climatic conditions.

Meanwhile, El Mahdi Arrifi, Director General of the ADA focused on the agriculture partnership between the public and the private sector, and the role of the Agency in promoting agricultural investments, in addition to green investment and its challenges.

“The public-private sectors’ partnership aims to attract domestic and foreign investment in the agricultural field, to make better use of the available stock of agricultural land, to create high added value, to contribute to the development of the basic production chains of the sector and to create job offers,” Arrifi detailed in the conference.

As for agricultural investment, he noted that it specifically concerns state-owned lands in the agri-food sector.

To conclude, Arrifi indicated that the Agency supports investors in the agricultural sector through the development of investments promotion, the arrangement of technical and economic references, and the development of projects’ offers with high added value.
