Denver – Hungary is the latest country to commend Morocco on its renewable energy initiatives after its ambassador applauded the North African country’s environmental efforts at a sustainability event in Sale on Tuesday.

Hungary’s ambassador to Morocco, Miklos Tromler, highlighted Morocco’s continued efforts to promote environmental sustainability, describing the country as a regional leader in terms of efficient energy transformation.

Among Morocco’s accomplishments, Tromler noted the country’s environmental contributions that “culminated in its organization of the [COP 22] global climate conference ” in 2016.

Hosted in Marrakech, COP 22 addressed water management, decarbonization, and sourcing financing for climate change programs. COP 22 also focused on the fight against climate change in Africa due to a heightened threat of climate emergency on the continent.

According to an official statement on Ambassador Tromler’s Twitter, the Hungarian diplomat is currently working in conjunction with Moroccan officials to organize a series of climate change events throughout October.

Under the framework of the Hungarian program “Planet Budapest 2021,” the two parties will organize a series of events in multiple Moroccan cities to address education challenges and raise awareness about climate activism and sustainable development among Morocco’s youth.

The first event in the series was held today in Sale at the Center for Integration and Assistance Through Work.

This will be followed by an event Thursday, October 14th, in Marrakech at the Shib school and Dar Tifl Orphanage. The third, and final event, will be hosted in Temara on Tuesday, October 26, at Al Makrizi School and Tazota Pedagogical Farm.

Organizers have enlisted the help of the Attawafouk Cooperative, a Moroccan-founded recycling group, to provide recycling bins to encourage the recovery of recyclable materials from local citizens.
