Rabat – In a statement on Saturday, October 2, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) reiterated its gratitude to Morocco for hosting Libya talks. UNSMIL released a press statement to mark the conclusion of the Hor-HcS Consultative Meeting in Rabat that took place on September 30 and October 1.
The UNSMIL statement “commends the two delegations for the positive atmosphere of the meeting” following two days of discussions regarding the organization of elections in Libya, a vital step in the ongoing peace process.
The UN’s Libya mission also backed both delegations in calling for further international support for the “Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and to guarantee the respect of electoral results through the provision of international observers.”

UNSMIL stated that it “reiterates its gratitude to the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting this meeting.”
Morocco has been a key player in the Libya peace progress, hosting talks long before any semblance of reconciliation between warring parties appeared possible. Talks in Skhirat in 2015 eventually became part of the foundation on which further dialogue was made possible.
Libya’s two main opposing factions are undergoing a series of negotiations and consultative meetings to agree on a new electoral law that is intended to become a watershed moment following nearly a decade of bloody conflict. Dialogue has so far not reached a conclusive result, with elections set to be organized in December.
