Rabat – Low-cost Irish carrier Ryanair inaugurated, on Tuesday November 2, 2021, a new base of operations at the Agadir-Al Massira airport, as part of the airline’s partnership agreement with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), concluded in July 2021, as a means to improve the destination’s attractiveness.

“The airline has inaugurated its new base at Agadir-Al Massira airport by launching its first direct flight from Bologna to Agadir,” said Mohamed Bahaj, director of the Agadir Al Massira airport.

The initiative is set to strengthen air links between the capital of the Souss-Massa region and 20 other destinations including Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Napoli, Paris, Toulouse and Porto.

“These new airlines will further improve the attractiveness of the city of Agadir which currently offers around 33 international destinations managed by 12 airlines, in addition to domestic flights to the cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Tangier, Laâyoune and Dakhla,” Bahaj added.

The Agadir Al Massira airport will be benefiting from many redevelopment plans within the framework of the 2021-2025 investment program, with a view of improving the quality of services for travelers.

The director of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of the Agadir Souss-Massa region, Asmaa Oubou, applauded Ryanair’s decision, which will help boost Agadir’s marketability as a tourist destination.

Before the pandemic, Ryanair carried approximately 6 million passengers to Morocco. Ryanair has significantly increased its capacity compared to pre-pandemic periods, when it previously had 108,000 seats available which has been expanded to 229,000 seats from November 2021.
