King Mohammed VI has called for the restoration of dialogue and mutual trust between Palestine and Israel, with a view to finding a favorable outcome to the Palestinian cause.

Reiterating Morocco’s determination to contribute to facilitating genuine Israel-Palestine dialogue, the monarch emphasized that the most optimal outcome to the conflict should be based on a two-state solution.

King Mohammed VI made his appeal in a message to the President of the UN Committee for the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, Cheikh Niang, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

“We reiterate the call for intensive and effective diplomatic efforts to be launched, in order to relaunch negotiations between the two parties with a view to finding a favorable outcome to the Palestinian question within the framework of the two-state solution,” the monarch said.

He also urged the international community to be more assertive in pushing for dialogue while making sure that both parties commit to the peace process.

He deplored the end of direct negotiations between Iraelis and Palestinians, saying that mutual trust between the two camps has “evaporated in the past seven years, when it could have been used to achieve the long-awaited solution.”

The King emphasized that Morocco will continue its efforts to bring Palestinians and Israelis to the negotiating table. The North African country will use its privileged relations with both parties and international powers to achieve this goal, the King suggested.

“Morocco’s firm position has never been dictated by circumstances and even less by any particular conjuncture,” he emphasized.

King Mohammed VI also renewed Morocco’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, explaining that the country’s position on the Palestinian question is founded on an “unshakeable conviction and faith” in “constant and constructive diplomatic effort… in favor of the just Palestinian cause and the holy city of Al Quds.”

The monarch called for the preservation of the Arab and Islamic identity of Al Quds, as well as of its legal historical and demographic status.

In his message, the King reassured the Palestinian National Autorities of his full support for their efforts to realize the aspirations of the Palestinian people for freedom and indepdence.

“We salute the sincere efforts of your honorable committee and we reaffirm our unwavering support for the noble endeavor in which it is engaged to defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people,” he said.

The monarch’s message in line with Morocco’s traditional position in support of the Palestinian cause.

The King echoed the same support in a  congratulatory message to President Mahmoud Abbas earlier this month.

In addition to pushing for genuine dialogue between Isarelis and Palestinians as the best and most viable way of achieving meaningful steps toward lasting peace in the decades-long conflict, Morocco will remain committed to the Palestinina cause,  the King said in his message to President Abbas.
