Fez – Belgian federal police are actively looking for two suspects for drug trafficking from Morocco.

Two Moroccan men, aged 30 and 35 years old, are subject to a federal search by the Belgian police for alleged involvement in a criminal network that operates in drug trafficking between Morocco and Europe.

The two suspects are also accused of the kidnapping and sequestration of a Belgian citizen in Spain; the victim is also believed to have been involved with the two men’s drug trafficking network.

The Belgian federal police launched their search operation to apprehend the two men in September 2020, and the two suspects are now thought to be living in Morocco.

A recent trial in the case involved about ten suspects with the two men’s drug trafficking network.

The criminal court in Brussels resumed the questioning of the other defendants in the drug trafficking case on November 24.

As they were absent owing to the police officers’ work stoppage at the Brussels courthouse, the suspects were represented by their lawyers.

The lawyers denied the allegations that their clients were tied to a criminal organization that trafficked drugs from Morocco to Belgium and Spain.

On November 25, the interrogation proceeded in preparation for the federal prosecutor’s indictment on Friday.

Morocco has been active in detecting and arresting suspects searched by foreign countries as part of its commitment with Interpol.

On October 22, Moroccan police arrested a French-Algerian national in Tangier on suspicions of international drug trafficking and forgery.

On October 12, Moroccan security services intercepted a French national who was the subject of an international arrest warrant at Casablanca’s Mohammed V international airport.

Morocco played a significant part in an Interpol-led assault on human trafficking that took place between March 29 and April 2. According to the International Criminal Police Organization, “Operation Weka” rescued 500 hundred victims of human trafficking and arrested at least 195 suspects.
