Rabat – The Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE) won on Thursday the prestigious Energy Globe National Award 2021, for its sustainable project on the promotion of photovoltaic pumping systems for drip irrigation.
Receiving the renowned environmental award on behalf of AMEE during a ceremony at the residence of the Austrian Ambassador in Rabat was the Agency’s Director General, Said Mouline.
The prestigious award selected AMEE for its impressive initiatives and ambitious programs in the field of energy efficiency in agriculture, notably the Agency’s actions related to the “solar pumping for agricultural irrigation” program.
“This award has received three thousand projects representing 180 countries around the world, who proposed projects related to renewable energy and management of water or energy transition,” said Mouline in a statement to Morocco’s state news agency.
“It is an energy transition that affects all the sectors that are winning today,” added Mouline.
According to the award’s jury, “the winning project is a perfect example of how national programs should be designed for the effective adoption of more environmentally friendly solutions.”
AMEE’s project was designed to provide personalized support to Morocco’s national program for solar water pumping, while addressing the weaknesses identified in the program.
It also aims to improve the productivity of plantations, to adapt to climate change and achieve the strategic objective of the Green Morocco Plan launched in 2008. The plan includes strengthening food security and supporting low carbon development in Morocco.
TAs part of its contribution in the 2021 COP26, Morocco has pledged to help limit the negative effects of climate change by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 66% by 2030.
The Australian Ambassador to Morocco, Klaus Kogeler, Austria’s ambassador in Rabat, highlighted Morocco’s environmental policies and described the country as a regional and global model in terms of renewable energies and sustainable development.
