Fez – Stranded cancer-patient Jamal Bouatmani expressed his relief for the good treatment he received after posting his shocking situation on LinkedIn. Bouatmani had been stranded at Morocco’s Casablanca Airport since December 7, unable to travel abroad for his “last-chance cancer treatment.”
Bouatmani said that “yesterday the Moroccan government gave him back a taste for life.”
He wrote that “to his great surprise he discovered a Moroccan administration that was completely different from what he knew.”
“The airport incident had disgusted me so much,” he added, noting that many officials have now been mobilized to solve his situation.
Bouatmani earlier quoted an airport security staff member saying that “even if you die in front of me, you won’t go.”
Social media users denounced the incident, describing the closure of borders as “illogical.”

Bouatmani wanted his voice to be heard since he was running out of time to undergo cancer treatment, therefore he sought an immediate solution to his dilemma.
He said that “the governor of Settat who receives his wife personally, the members of the immigration office of the M5 airport are doing their best to find a solution so that I can leave the territory.” He also emphasized the efforts of the “director of internal affairs of the Wilaya who spent a whole day looking for a legal solution that could help him.”
Bouatmani apologized for not mentioning all those who stood up to help him. He also said that a minister called him personally on his “mobile not to reprimand him for the LinkedIn post, but to listen to him.” The minister, according to Bouatmani, thanked him for notifying high officials of a “misunderstanding that must be resolved.”
He expressed happiness with “all this, added to the support of my employer, my colleagues, and my contacts,” making him “forget the horrible experience.”
It appears that Bouatmani has since arrived in Germany for his treatment, as he wrote on Linkedin that “it was with pride that he told a German policeman ‘yes I come from Morocco!’”
