Rabat – Five out of 28 new Omicron cases Morocco confirmed on Tuesday are aged between four months and 13-year-old, the Ministry of Health has announced.
On Tuesday, the ministry confirmed 27 new Omicron cases, bringing to 28 the total confirmed cases of the new strain in Morocco.
13 of the confirmed cases were detected in the Casablanca-Settat region, while 11 are based in Rabat-Sale-Kenitra. The ministry also confirmed four cases in Fez-Meknes.
With 20 cases having been detected within seven family epidemiological clusters, the ministry emphasized it is monitoring 46 suspected cases of the new variant. Eight of the 20 cases are isolated cases, while five patients are children aged between four months and 13 years old.
Meanwhile, 14 of the suspected cases are located in the Marrakech-Safi region, the ministry noted.
“Suspected cases are identified daily, particularly within epidemiological clusters, or concern contact cases. They go through PCR testing before they are confirmed by genomic analysis,” it explained.
The ministry tallied the number of COVID cases detected in Morocco, mounting to 381 on Tuesday. The number represents a notable increase compared to past weeks, when the country reported between 100 and 200 daily.
With these latest figures, the government has warned of the deterioration of Morocco’s epidemiological situation and urged citizens to be more vigilant amid rising risks of infection.
The ministry notbaly called on all citizens and residents to strictly adhere to individual and collective preventive measures, including the correct wearing of protective masks, frequent hand washing, and social distancing.
Booster vaccines are imperative in the fight against the new variant, the ministry concluded.
