Morocco confirmed 2,034 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health announced December 31.
With the new infections, Morocco’s total number of COVID-19 cases amounted to 963,092.
The health ministry data said that 140 COVID-19 cases are in critical.
The COVID daily reports show a sharp increase of cases in Morocco compared to the past few weeks. In the past weeks, cases reported daily seldom exceeded 200.
The health ministry also confirmed five deaths in the past 24 hours. The death toll related to COVID-19 reached 14,849.
With regards to recoveries, about 660 people were declared recovered from COVID-19.
The total number of recoveries reached 940,193 as of today, December 31.
Laboratories across Morocco carried out 17,159 new tests.
The Casablanca-Settat region confirmed the largest number of cases in the past 24 hours (1,314 and one death), followed by Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (444 cases), Marrakech-Safi (181 cases), Souss-Massa (32 cases, one death), and Tangier-Tetouan Al Hoceima region (22 cases).
Fez-Meknes recorded 20 cases and two deaths, followed by the Oriental (11 cases), Beni Mellal Khenifra (four cases, one death), Draa Tafilalt (two cases), Laayoune Sakia El Hamra (two cases), Dakhla Oued Eddahab (one case), and Guelmim-Oued Noun (one case).
