Rabat – Possibly benefitting the agricultural regions, Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) forecasts snowfall and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday in several provinces across Morocco.
Snowfall ranging between 10 and 30 centimeters is expected from Wednesday 10 a.m. to Thursday 6 a.m.
The snowfalls is expected in the provinces of Azilal, Beni Mellal, Taza, Guercif, Midelt, and Tinghir.
Moderate thunderstorms ranging between 15 and 25 millimeters will affect the cities of Kenitra, Larache, Rabat-Sale, Khemisset, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane on Wednesday.
The Rabat region has been witnessing significant rainfalls since Tuesday, when the city witnessed temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius. Warm weather is not traditionally normal in December, when the country faces cold fronts in several regions, including mountainous areas.
The recent rainfalls could help improve Morocco’s agriculture sector after several weeks with limited showers.
The sector is one of Morocco’s economic pillars. Last year, agriculture contributed around 12.23% to the GDP.
In its recent overview on Morocco’s economy, the Oxford Business Group said agriculture provided about 74% of jobs in rural areas in 2019.
“As such, agricultural output has a large impact on overall economic performance,” the report emphasized.
