Rabat – Moroccan national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has announced updates to the eligibility conditions for special flights from the UAE, Portugal, and Turkey to Morocco.
The flights are for Moroccans residing/stranded abroad who have left Morocco since September 1, 2021. Also eligible to access Moroccan territory via RAM’s special flights are the spouses and children of this category of people, noted the statement.
Under the eligibility conditions, beneficiaries are also urged to present their ID or passport with an address in Morocco as well as a negative PCR test taken less than 48 hours from departure.
Royal Air Maroc announced the special flights from the three destinations on December 13 after uproar from Moroccans stranded abroad.
The company began operating the flights on December 15.
However, Morocco’s Interministerial Monitoring Committee has decided to suspend the repatriation flights, starting December 23, after the discovery of the first set of Omicron cases in Casablanca.
Morocco’s government reassured citizens that the situation is under control but warned that the Omicron strain spreads faster than the other variants, including Delta.
Health professionals are also urging citizens to take booster jabs to strengthen their immunity against Omicron and other strains of the COVID-19 virus.
To date, Morocco has recorded in total 952,628 COVID-19 cases, including 936,348 recoveries, and 14, 808 deaths.
