Rabat – Spain has arrested 37 people, including four Moroccans for their involvement in a criminal group active in the sexual exploitation of minors and drug trafficking.
El Correo Pozuelo reported that the list of suspects also included people from Dominica, Nigeria, Romania, Cuba, and Spain.
The suspects were exploiting minors sexually and using them to sell drugs.
The suspects include a 51-year old Moroccan, who has a criminal record, including suspicion of murder. Three female suspects were among the arrested.
Spain released about 10 victims, all minors aged between 14 and 16 years old. The criminal network was using the girls for prostitution-related activities and drug trafficking.
Spanish police investigation said one of the victims was unwillingly imprisoned for three days in a room in a drug store located on Juan Espanol Street in Madrid. One of the female suspects managed the drug store.
The investigation found that the female suspect had asked clients whether they wanted to have sexual relations with the minor locked in the room. The victim managed to escape and ask for help.
Some of the suspects sexually abused and raped one of the minors.
The investigation also found that the suspects purposely provided drugs to the girls causing them to be addicted and reliant on the traffickers for drugs in exchange for “prostitution.”
Police seized equipment during the searches of the suspects’ homes, including a camera that may contain pornographic material of minors.
The suspects face charges of sexual assault, prostitution of minors, possession of child pornography, illegal detention, and crimes against public health.
Eight of the suspects are currently in prison.
