Fez – Morocco has made significant gains towards expanding social services, according to the country’s economy minister. Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah Alaoui discussed the progress made as she chaired a January 5 meeting of the Board of Directors of the Moroccan National Social Security Fund (CNSS) to discuss its December 2021 performance.
Moroccan Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, opened the meeting with a speech addressing the approval of the action plan and budget for 2022, according to a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Alaoui highlighted the CNSS’ contributions in meeting King Mohammed VI’s guidelines and working towards providing social protection to all citizens. The minister illustrated the fund’s support measures to mitigate the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, with efforts to curb its negative economic and social impacts.
The minister highlighted recent achievements in social coverage generalization. She referred to the inclusion of new swaths of the population to benefit from social coverage and, on the other hand, the enhancement of benefits provided to insured people.
This development includes the progressive expansion of medical coverage to roughly three million self-employed and independent professionals.
Talking about the CNSS’ general management, the minister praised its efforts led by Hassan Boubrik. Alaoui also highlighted the positive indicators of 2021, indicating the effectiveness of CNSS’s management of pension plans and compulsory health insurance.

CNSS succeeded in increasing the number of covered employees to 3.4 million, a number that includes nearly 290,000 companies, according to the minister. She further mentioned an increase in pensioners to 693,566, benefiting from a total benefit of MAD 13 billion ($1.40 billion). Family allowances served 1.7 million beneficiaries exceeding MAD 9 billion ($971.88 million).
Regarding the Compulsory Health Insurance (AMO) scheme, Alaoui welcomed the number of beneficiaries which reached 7.8 million. Beneficiaries include 3 million working people, 600 thousand pensioners, and more than 4 million beneficiaries. These can now benefit from nearly MAD 5.9 billion ($637.66 million) of reimbursements against contributions due of about MAD 8.5 billion ($918.67 million).
The number of healthcare reimbursement filings rose to 22,751 daily with an average processing and reimbursement time not exceeding 6 days.
