Rabat – Morocco’s Lawyers Club has filed a complaint against beIN Sports journalist Hafid Derradji after his recent controversial and insulting remarks against Moroccans.
The club filed the complaint to the Qatari attorney general Issa bin Saad AlJafali Alnuaimi in accordance with the “provisions of Article 8 if Law 14/2014 on the fight against cyber crime,” according to the president of the club Mouar Elajoutti.
The complaint denounced Derradji’s “attacks on Moroccan women honor and the dignity of Moroccan society,” following reports of the Algerian journalist’s derogatory remarks targeting Morocco and Moroccan women on Twitter.
Derradji was involved in a heated online debate following Algeria’s defeat to Cote d’Ivoire in a much-anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage match on January 20.

After Algeria’s elimination from the ongoing AFCON, screenshots appeared online of Derraji’s insulting message to a Moroccan woman.
In the message, the journalist called Moroccan women “prostitutes,” saying that all Moroccans are “bastards.”
“The whole world knows that you [Moroccans] are sons of a b**. When we say a Moroccan woman, we say b** and when we say a Moroccan man, we say son of a b**. The latest figures claim that 50% of Moroccans are bastards,” he said, according to the screenshotted messages.
Amid the popular backlash his comments sparked, Derradji attempted to deny that the screenshots shared online were from his account. But the woman he had sent the message to shared a video in response to the Algerian journalist’s allegations that the Twitter account was not his.
In the video, the woman showed her inbox and clicked on the account to make sure to enable viewers to see the account was not a fake profile of Derradji as it showed it was verified by Twitter.
This is not the first time Derradji has provoked outrage among Moroccans and other social media commenters in the MENA region for insulting Morocco and Moroccans.
As he criticized the diplomatic rapprochement between Morocco and Israel in August of last year, the journalist went as far as calling all Moroccans “Zionists.” He also urged the Algerian government to maintain borders closed with Morocco, arguing that Moroccans are a threat to Algeria and regional stability. and Moroccan Israeli rapprochement.
Algeria closed its airspace to Morocco in the same month after the country announced its decision to sever all diplomatic relations with Rabat.
With Derradji now taking his long-running hostility toward Morocco and Moroccans much too far this time, many in Morocco have called on beIN Sports to fire him for constantly using his platform as sports commentator to inappropriately settle political scores with Morocco.
It remains to be seen whether the Qatari sports channel will take any actions regarding the controversial Algerian journalist, despite overwhelming evidence of his keenness to attack Morocco and Moroccans while commenting on matches.
