Rabat – A French appeal court has overturned the AllegedĀ rape and sexual assault charges against Wydad AC striker Wissam Ben Yedder due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
According to the French website āFrance 24,ā the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal acquitted former Monaco and France international striker Wissam Ben Yedder of psychological violence charges against his wife where these allegations rose during a highly contested divorce proceeding.
The Aix-en-Provence appeals court ruled there was no basis to prosecute him. His lawyer stated to AFP, “We are very satisfied with the decision. My client has always maintained his innocence.”
The 35-year-old former French international forward signed a six-month contract with Casablanca based Wydad AC in January 2026 to reinforce their attacking squad. He was initially convicted last September and fined 90,000 euros, following a complaint from his wife accusing him of aggressive and insulting behavior before their separation.
Ben Yedder was also convicted in Spain in 2023 for tax fraud during his time at Sevilla and received a two-year suspended sentence in France in 2024 for sexual violence in a separate case, which he has appealed.
The ruling follows a recent decision by the same court to drop separate sexual assault charges against the player and his brother due to lack of evidence. Over the last two years, the former French international has been known more for his legal troubles than his football career.
Before joining the Wydad AC, he tried unsuccessfully to revive his career in Iran and Turkey.
