Rabat – Morocco-Israel relations have experienced positive developments since the two countries re-established diplomatic ties a little more than a year ago, the ambassadors of Morocco and Israel in Mexico, Abdelfattah Lebbar and Zvi Tal, said this week in a jointly penned column.
In comments explaining the encouraging trajectory of Moroccan-sraeli exchanges in the past year, Lebbar highlighted the progress of cooperation between the two countries in political, diplomatic, economic, and cultural fields.
Published in Mexican newspaper Excelsior and titled, “First anniversary of re-establishing Morocco-Israel diplomatic relations,” the ambassadors’ column outlined the most eye-catching improvements in Morocco-Israel relations in the past year.
They recalled that several agreements have been signed in recent months, including launching direct airline routes, establishing security cooperation, and many other scientific and academic research-related partnerships.
In terms of serving common interests, the article noted that the talks between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid contributed to the deepening and strengthening of the multifaceted relations of cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting between Bourita and Lapid also contributed to strengthening cooperation between the embassies of Morocco and Israel in Mexico, they added.
Lebbar underlined that the restoration of relations with Israel “consecrates the historical coexistence and the privileged ties between Jews and Muslims in Morocco.”
The Moroccan ambassador also recalled King Mohammed VI’s vision in promoting peace and security in the region.
Meanwhile, the Israeli ambassador asserted that the commitments both countries have shown since re-establishing ties testify to a shared willingness to serve the people in the region while promoting peace. He also expressed optimism for the prospects for further and stronger cooperation between Israel and Morocco, as well as with Mexico.
The two representatives concluded their column by recalling their participation in “Green Challenge,” the tree-planting initiative that took place in Mexico city in September 2021 as part of a program initiated by the Mexican capital.
“The joint participation testifies to their [ambassadors] desire to further consolidate cordial and cooperation ties between Morocco, Israel and Mexico, particularly in environment-related fields and sustainable development,” they concluded.
