Rabat – Bayt Mal Al Qods Agency, a Moroccan agency dedicated to raising donations and mobilizing aid for the Holy City of Al-Quds (Arabic for Jerusalem), announced ratifying $1 million funds for social development, according to a January 26 press release.
Under the leadership of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, the funds are the first phase of the 2022 strategy for the agency.
The agency plans to mobilize $400,000 of said funds to double the number of orphans under the custody of the agency, and continue to financially support needy families currently benefiting from daily humanitarian aid.
The agency will also oversee the distribution of four meals in two phases over the upcoming Ramadan month.
In addition to supporting families and orphans directly, the agency will allocate funds to support the already-existing initiative, “local initiatives for the Al-Quds development program” with a budget of $415,000, noted the press statement.
Funds mobilized under the initiatives will support 10 projects launched by NGOs dedicated to the social development of Al-Quds.
The 10 NGO beneficiaries will undergo a process of selection overseen by a special committee.
In line with its aim to support Al-Quds’s cultural heritage, the agency plans to allocate $150,000 to fund two cultural centers and two NGOs dedicated to the preservation of the city’s heritage.
The funds will also support a research center taking the scope of the Islamic/Christian religious landscape in the holy city.
The agency also pledged to invest $40,000 in supporting academic research in media, with an eye on supporting academic initiatives to document the reality of the city and the city’s historical interactions with Moroccans.
Researchers sponsored by the fund will be eligible to compete for the “Holy Al-Quds” prize for journalistic distinction alongside Moroccan graduates of Morocco’s Media and Communication Institute.
