Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Health has confirmed 6,050 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.
Morocco’s death toll related to COVID-19 mounted to 14,883 after 11 people died in the past 24 hours.
In the past 24 hours, Morocco confirmed 1,734 new recoveries.
Active COVID-19 cases increased significantly in the span of several weeks, evident in the number of infections confirmed in the past few days. In early December, Morocco recorded daily cases in the hundreds before the epidemic resurged to again reach thousands of new cases every day.
In the past few weeks, the daily number of cases did not exceed 300 cases, going as low as 90 daily cases on December 5. In recent days, the number of daily cases ranges between 4,000 and reached a new peak today.
The number of people in critical condition reached 241.
The total number of COVID-19 cases Morocco confirmed since March 2020 has reached 983,629, including 946,289 recoveries.
Casablanca-Settat reported the majority of cases in the past 24 hours (3,841 cases, four deaths), followed by Rabat-Sale-Kenitra (1,154 cases, three deaths), Marrakech-Safi (482 cases), Souss-Massa (160 cases, one death), and Fez-Meknes (127 cases, one death).
The Tangier-Tetouan Al Hoceima region recorded 120 cases, followed by Beni Mellal Khenifra (59 cases), the Oriental (47 cases), Draa Tafilalet (18 cases, one death), and Guelmim Oued Noun (18 cases, one death).
Dakhla Oued Eddahab region reported 16 cases, while Laayoune Sakia El Hamra confirmed eight new cases.
Morocco’s vaccinated population (recipients of first and second doses) reached 22,964,209 as of January 6.
People who received the first dose stood at 24,583,273, while people who received their booster shot reached 3,341,726.
