Morocco’s government has agreed to allow Mauritanian students to use Royal Air Maroc flights deployed to repatriate Moroccans from Ukraine’s neighboring countries.
Mauritania’s news agency AMI announced the news today after a phone call between Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita.
“During the call, they agreed to give seats to Mauritanian students as part of the trip program organized by the Kingdom [of Morocco] for its citizens in Ukraine on Royal Air Maroc,” the news agency reported.
AMI recalled that Royal Air Maroc’s program is limited to flights from neighboring countries of Ukraine due to the closure of the Ukrainian airspace.
On Sunday, Royal Air Maroc announced a flight schedule to repatriate Moroccans in Ukraine.
The Moroccan flag carrier said it will offer flights from Ukraine’s neighboring countries to help stranded Moroccans who were in Ukraine amid the Kyiv-Moscow crisis.
Royal Air Maroc’s flights will start operations on March 2.
Three trips will take place on Wednesday, connecting Casablanca and Romania’s Bucharest, Hungary’s Budapest, and Poland’s capital Warsaw.
Royal Air Maroc’s special flights are available exclusively for Moroccan nationals in Ukraine and their families transitioning through crossing points in Romania, Hungary, and Poland.
Per the Moroccan government’s request, Royal Air Maroc will only charge Moroccans $75 for the trip.
Last week, the government called on all Moroccans wishing to return to Morocco to travel to Ukraine’s crossing points with Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia.
The embassy provided a list of phone numbers for Moroccans in Ukraine to contact for specific instructions.
The list of numbers is as follows: 0 48 538 224 200, 00 36 702 725 123, or 00 36 1 391 4310.
