The number of Moroccans who left Ukraine via crossing points with neighboring countries rose to 1,534 on Monday afternoon.
Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said that the number is expected to increase in the coming days.
Of the Moroccans who have left Ukraine, 720 left the European country through crossing points with Poland, 384 left through crossing points with Romania, while 300 people left the country through border posts with Slovakia.
About 384 left Ukraine via the country’s border with Romania, while 130 people left through crossing points with Hungary, the ministry of foreign affairs said.
The ministry noted that it dispatched 20 consular representatives, including four former consuls generals to assist Moroccan embassy teams in welcoming and providing necessary aid to Moroccans who have crossed to Ukraine’s neighboring countries.
Amid reports of an impending Russian military offensive, Morocco urged its citizens in Ukraine to book flights and leave the country as soon as possible. With the closure of Ukrainian airspace after Russia started its offensive last week, Morocco’s government called on its citizens in Ukraine to leave the country through crossing points with Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, and Romania.
Mauritanian students are also eligible to use Royal Air Maroc flights as part of an agreement between Morocco and Mauritania.
