Casablanc’s Raja Athletic Club beat Guinea’s Horoya 1-0 tonight at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca as part of the groups stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
With a six point tally from two previous matches against South African AmaZulu FC (1-0) and Algeria’s Es Setif (1-0), the green eagles started today’s game in good spirit.
The “green eagles” new coach, ex-Raja player, Bouchaib Lambarki, said in a pre-match press conference that the team is eyeing to reach 9 points in this game,” and confirmed the club’s commitment to win an early qualification to the next round of the CAF Champions League.
Lambarki chose to start the game with a lineup of 4-4-2.
Raja’s players dominated the field during the first half with thrilling attacks on the host’s penalty square, keeping the Horoya goalkeeper busy.
With their outstanding display today, the green eagles have done all they can to not lose their lead in group B.
The first half ended in a 0-0 draw.
The second half kicked off as the Guinean team grew back to the game, but not successfully penetrating Raja’s solid defensive wall.
The eagles had a more balanced and focused lineup, putting their opponent in tough moments.
After a 22 minutes of push and pull game, Raja’s Mohsine Moutaouali successfully put the ball in Horoya Conakry’s net at the 67th minute.
Horoya Conakry was desperately pursuing swift salvation in this game to win its first three points in group B.
Casablanca’s Raja earned today another well-deserved three points to stay in top of group B with nine points in total.
Today’s game coincided with reopening stadiums for fans after a two years ban, with the government announcing the decision yesterday.
