Rabat – Ambassadors of Morocco, Egypt, and Palestine in Ukraine held a meeting on March 2 with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and representatives of security and border affairs to discuss border crossing of Arab citizens to neighboring countries amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The discussions sought to “ensure the safety of citizens and provide the basic requirements of food and drink since they live in difficult conditions as they are waiting outside for several days,” said Morocco’s Embassy to Kyiv, operating from Lviv at the moment.
On Behalf of the Council of Arab Ambassadors, the three diplomats called for the repatriation of Arab citizens stranded in Ukraine and the facilitation of border-crossing procedures. The officials noted that they are aware of the complications due to the large wave of people coming from Kyiv.
The Arab ambassadors also tackled the situation of Arabs (including students) residing in Kharkiv, Kherson, and Sumy urging Ukrainian authorities to provide safe evacuation itineraries to ensure citizens’ escape from the conflict zone.
For their part, the Ukrainian officials promised to address the demands of the ambassadors, stressing the complexity of the current situation. The officials said they will partner with all department concerns, particularly ones specialized in addressing security issues.

As of March 2, 3,984 Moroccan have fled Ukraine through neighboring countries.
In the past days, Morocco has mobilized its diplomatic representatives to repatriate its citizens.
The country has created free troll-phone lines to assist Moroccans and has deployed 20 consulate officials in Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Poland to welcome Moroccans coming from Ukraine and assist them with necessary aid.
Due to the announcement of the state of war in Ukraine and airspace closure, Moroccans stranded in Ukraine have had to cross by land to neighboring countries. They can then board special flights organized by Royal Air Maroc to return home.
To date, the Moroccan airline has mobilized 11 flights to repatriate Moroccan citizens studying or residing in Ukraine.
