Moroccan golfer Ines Laklalech will participate, for the first time as a professional, in the Aramco Saudi Ladies International, taking place from March 17-20 at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club and King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia.
Receiving her invite in December 2021, the 24-year-old is the second Arab woman to compete in the event as a full member of the Ladies European Tour, according to GulfNews. The report further says that Laklalech hopes “to inspire the next generation of Arab girls around the world, believing that they have unprecedented opportunities.”
The Moroccan golfer expressed her happiness for taking part in the Aramco Saudi Ladies International this week. “I didn’t play in Kenya [the LET’s first event of 2022] so it’s my first tournament of the season,” she told GulfNews.
Having taken part in the tournament in 2020 as an amateur, Laklalech said that “the Saudi Ladies International was actually the first LET event I played as an amateur back in 2020.”
Her participation in the Aramco Saudi Ladies International is her “second LET tournament, in the same place as the first, but this time as a professional,” she explained.
Talking about her 2020 experience, Laklalech noted, “It was a great, great tournament and experience, I loved it – particularly because it was in an Arab country, which to me made it even more special.”
The Moroccan golfer said she is aware of this tournament’s expectations, as “the windy conditions [in Saudi Arabia] mean things can get very interesting and tough out there.” But she added that she is “very, very excited to play.”
