Rabat – The 2022 edition of the US-backed program H2O Maghreb has led to 70% of its Moroccan participants to land jobs in the water and sanitation sectors.

260 people took part in the project which ended on March 24. Led by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), H2O Maghreb trained youth for the water and sanitation job market, the aid agency said in a press release on Thursday.

The annual program, first started by USAID in 2017, is also run by  Festo Didactic, EON Reality, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Morocco’s government and National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE).

At the closing ceremony, the winners of H2O Maghreb’s fifth and final class received their training certificates, with one of the trainees commending “the relevance of the training modules to the challenges and needs of the water sector in Morocco.”

USAID’s director Juan Carlos Rodriguez expressed delight with the project’s results, noting that it “has demonstrated the power of public-private partnerships and achieved impressive results.”

For his part, IEA coordinator at ONEE Abderrafii Mardi indicated that the H2O Maghreb project “has not only contributed to strengthening the Institute’s educational resources but also to increasing the skills of our trainers in the field of design and the implementation of qualifying training courses devoted to drinking water and sanitation.”

USAID and its partners continue to deliver numerous projects in Morocco to benefit young people and, prioritize capacity-building training programs in various sectors.
