Rabat – The US sent another shipment of 850,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine to Morocco on Saturday, October 30.
The US embassy in Rabat announced the news in social media posts.
The embassy said that US charge d’affaires Lawrence Randolph along with officials from Morocco’s Ministry of Health received the shipment at the Casablanca airport.
Brooke Isham, USAID Morocco Mission Director, also attended the event.
Along with the shipment of the Pfizer vaccine, the US also provided an additional $2 million in “COVID-19 assistance to further support Morocco’s highly successful response to the pandemic,” noted the embassy’s statement.
The US has carried out several donations to Morocco as part of its initiatives to help the North African country in its campaign against COVID-19.
One of the latest donations was in September, when the US provided Morocco with a mobile isolation unit to treat COVID patients.
The US inaugurated the 30-bed medical unit in Sale, Rabat’s twin city.
The donation was worth $1.5 million.
In July, the US donated over 300,000 doses of the Janssen vaccines to help Morocco boost its vaccination campaign.
To date, Morocco has fully vaccinated over 22,033,991.
The number of people who received the first dose of vaccine stood at 24,192,806 on October 30, while the number of third dose-vaccinated people reached 1,389,062.
Since the COVID crisis hit Morocco in March of last year, the country has recorded 945,960 COVID-19 cases, including 926,293 recoveries, and 14,667 deaths.
