Rabat – Two Moroccans have won gold medals in the Dakar Judo championship, which took place in the Senegalese capital on March 27.
Host country Senegal came first in the second edition of the African Junior Judo Cup 2022 finals with four gold medals.
Ivory Coast took second place in the competition with three gold medals.
Morocco secured the third place with two gold medals, ranking above Cameroon and South Africa who won one gold medal each.
Moroccan Mohamed Taibi, aged 19, secured the first gold medal after defeating the Senegalese Mouhamed Mboup in the under 66kg category finals, according to the International Judo Federation website, Taibi also previously got the first place in the Casablanca Cadet African Cup of 2019.
Hassan Doukkali, aged 19, brought home the second gold medal after toppling Senegal’s Ndiaye Cheikh Amadou Bamba in the under 73kg category finals. Doukkali scored several gold medals in the past, the most recent was in Dakar, November 2021.
These two athletes will now join the likes of Issam Bassou, Aziza Chakir, Asmaa Niang, and many other Moroccan athletes who have honored their country by bringing home gold medals.
